Fort Mason Artist Studio

Set against the backdrop of San Francisco, a city whose high cost of living often renders art-making prohibitively expensive, this space aims to provide not only the studio space to work, but also an opportunity to build community for the artists of this city. Open studios and the winding hall running along the perimeter of the upper floor offers spontaneous opportunities for the meeting and sharing of ideas, with a large central volume left as a gathering space for events, as gallery space for large-scale installations, and to preserve the integrity of the historic structure, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
