Fort Mason

We were chartered with creating a space that is conducive to fostering collaboration within the visual arts community in San Francisco, a city whose high cost of living often renders art making prohibitively expensive. The design includes three concept proposals for multiple artist studios, that allow for collaboration and community building.

At the same time, the adaptive reuse design of the original, traditional structure – it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places – allows the space to be utilized as a gathering place for events, as well. Because of this structure’s historic significance, we also made special considerations in our adaptive reuse of the building to preserve its original character and its integrity.
